Wander, Wonder, Wilderness is a documentary project that explores the urban wilds and parks of Greater Boston. This hour long essay film chronicles the filmmaker's engagement with green spaces in an urban environment and explores the complex notions that they reveal about human ecology. One part history lesson, one part ecological perspective, and one part poetic rumination, this long form essay film chronicles a range of ideas around landscape, evolving notions of wilderness, historical layers of human experience with nature and its resources, and personal meditations on the environment. The film also contains extensive on-site interviews with visitors to these locations to capture and share a collective understanding of Boston’s relationship to natural spaces in their otherwise artificial setting. The human experience of nature through these green spaces is multifaceted, as it can involve not just our appreciation of plants, trees, animals, birds, and phenomena of light and weather, but the more personal interactions and internal ruminations that these environments inspire.
